You are either a) a parent being pestered by a child who wants their very own star wars bed, or b) the guy I’ve seen dressed up as Darth Vader once a year outside the convention center… who now wants their very own star wars bed. Either way, this article aims to help you find the best star wars bed sheets to accomplish your goal. So, what should you look for? Where can you find it? And how much should you expect to pay? We’ll try to properly address each of those issues, so keep reading.
First off, and we’ve addressed this in other posts, one of the main components you should look at when you’re making any kind of bed linen purchase is the thread count of the sheets. If you are a parent shopping for sheets, this isn’t a huge concern, but it should be noted. After all, kids can be rough on things, and the longer a purchase lasts, the better. We’ve suggested before that you opt for sheets that have thread counts in the 400 range. More is better, of course, but don’t be afraid of undercutting this number a little bit as it won’t make a huge difference.

Of course, the real reason anyone buys sheets like this is the design. The thread count won’t matter a whole lot if you don’t find a design cool enough to satisfy the sleeper. An important trick to employ when shopping for sheets is to pull out a section of the fabric from the packaging big enough to give you a good idea of what the pattern will look like on a bed. Most people are afraid of doing this, just because these products tend to be so perfectly packaged. I promise though, they can be re-packaged in the store, and store owners would much rather have you find that a pattern doesn’t quite meet your expectations in the store than after you have taken them home and slept on them for a couple of weeks.

These aren’t terribly difficult sheets to find, so we won’t spend a ton of time examining retailers. A quick check on Amazon can yield results relatively easily:
Star Wars 5 Piece Bedding Set
Star Wars Galactic Heroes Collection

Of course, buying online doesn’t really give you quite the same opportunity to feel the quality and see what the design and colors look like in real life. If you want to check out a really nice star wars bedding set in a store, I’d recommend Pottery Barn, which always has nice stuff. Amazon has a picture of their set, too, and you can check it out here:
Pottery Barn Kids Star Wars(TM) Quilted Bedding

Now, what isn’t really addressed in this article, is where to get a set of star wars bedding in a size bigger than twin. We don’t all sleep by ourselves in narrow, kids beds. And I recognize that there is demand out there for sheets like these in a larger size. Unfortunately, I’m not very familiar with where one might find them. Of course, you could always go with a set of zebra bedding. So, anyone with knowledge that they’d like to share is more than welcome to throw a link or two in the comments below.

Getting back to star wars bedding for kids, as you might imagine, prices vary quite a bit. The range is generally anywhere from around the $50 mark, to well over $100. If you buy from a place like Pottery Barn, expect to pay a bit more, though you’ll be getting nicer sheets. And just like anything else you buy for your children, you’ll have to gauge how much you want to spend by how long things tend to last in hands of your particular kid. Sheets are a great example. Is your son or daughter potty trained? I’m no expert, but the answer to this question should probably have a pretty significant impact on how much money you intend on spending.

Lastly, to parents, it’s important to be aware of the most recent trends to try and buy the coolest set of bedding you can for your money. Unless your son or daughter has mentioned otherwise, the latest is generally the best. And in the case of star wars, the latest trend has been anything associated with “The Clone Wars.” You can find star wars clone wars bedding if you look around a little bit, and my advice to you would be to do so. A great way to save money has, and will always be, to buy something that will last longer physically, but that will also satisfy the user longest. The cooler sheets you can buy, the better, so make sure to do your homework. As luck would have it, Amazon happens to have a set of clone wars bedding available on their site for $80 as well. Check it out:

So, you’re in the market for zebra bedding, eh? Well, it sounds like you’re planning an exciting room. And whether this is for a child that loves animals, or if you’re just looking for a little more flair in your own bedroom, we’re here to help. Zebra print bedding, in case there is any confusion often consists of varied width and length, alternating black and white stripes. Though we’ll all agree that it’s not for everyone, a zebra bed can really help to add some character and personality to a room. So, what kind of things should you look for as you shop for zebra bedding, and where are some good places to go shopping? We’ll try to answer these questions in this post, so keep reading.
<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-0392623080281892";
/* 728x90, created 8/11/10 */
google_ad_slot = "5411540559";

First off, some potential pitfalls that you should be aware of before you buy. The most important thing to remember is that you’re going to be extra cautious about the quality of the sheets you buy. Because people often buy this bedding as a gag gift, or as something they intend to use only a handful of times, manufacturers will often treat this product as one that they can put minimal effort into in terms of quality control and the like. But you’ve got a little metric called ‘thread count’ on your side. Regardless of other people shopping for zebra sheets, the producers are still required to list thread count, your best measurement of quality. As stated in other posts on this site, you probably want to stick with sheets that have at least a 380 count. Remember to err on the high side the larger the size that you’re buying.

Once you’ve got your quality issues ironed out, the next thing to do is pull a big enough piece of the fabric out of the packaging that you can actually get a good idea of what the pattern will look like on your bed. Obviously Zebra print is a little more hit-or-miss than other patterns, but don’t be afraid to pull a decent chunk out of the packaging. Certainly don’t go pulling every sheet in the store out, but use your common sense. Once you’ve confirmed that the thread count is up to snuff, and the picture on the packaging looks like something you might like, take some out and just confirm that the stripes on the actual product match what you’ve got in mind.

Bed in a bag is a relatively new concept, and fear not, you can find zebra bed in a bag as well. This seems like it has been a great solution for a lot of people looking for the quick one stop shop kind of approach. I can’t say a whole lot about it other than it is available in this pattern. I, personally, have never owned a bed in a bag set, though I have plenty of friends with trustworthy opinions that say their stuff is great. I can say, however, that it is available on Amazon, so definitely take a look. Here’s a link to one set I found that looks pretty good: 11Pcs Queen Zebra Bed in a Bag Set.

As you might imagine, there is just about every imaginable variation on the zebra bedding theme. Whether you’re looking for pink zebra bedding, or zebra baby bedding, you can rest assured that it’s out there. Don’t believe me? Check out this Hot Pink, Black & White Funky Zebra Bedding Or this Funky Zebra Crib Sheet

And that leads me to my last, and perhaps most important point. You should certainly feel free to shop at will. Buy zebra bedding, buy star wars bedding, buy whatever you want. But it’s very easy to go overboard with a pattern like zebra, and it’s probably something that you should avoid if at all possible. After all, we’ve all been to a friend’s home (no need to name names) that has just a bit too much interest in a certain design element or the like. It can lead to a very cramped and awkward feeling in a house, and quite frankly, some embarrassment amongst your friends. Though don’t worry, they’ll never tell you.

So, in the end, as with all things, it’s all about personal preference. Take as much or as little risk as you like, but remember to have fun. It is, of course, your house, and no one has to live there except for you. Do remember to take some care when shopping, as mentioned about double checking the thread count and pattern (if possible), and prepare for your new foray into the African savanna. Good luck, and check back here for more helpful tips.

Now, this review is only about fifteen years great, but it’s never too late to talk about a good shopping experience. Especially in the arena of mattress shopping, which is sort of notorious for the opposite. When I lived in the bay area in the 90s, I was just out of college, and shopping to furnish one of my first apartments. Jobless, and with nothing really to speak of in terms of possessions, I set out to outfit my new pad with some cool items… on a serious budget. Back then, Craigslist and the like didn’t exist. For that matter, the internet didn’t really exist. I tried checking out the newspaper classifieds, but was very quickly discouraged, very discouraged in fact. I went to see a couple of used mattresses from the paper and was so thoroughly disgusted that I determined there and then that I would need a new mattress, regardless of how much more I would have to spend.
My neighborhood (near Chinatown) was noisy, and I knew that if I was going to sleep in the city each night, with everything that goes along with that, I’d need to at least have a surface to sleep on that didn’t keep me up at night just wondering what might be festering beneath me. I must say that I got very lucky. The first store that I went to came about on a whim. I was on the way home from visiting some family friends in Napa when I decided to stop in at a local store called Sleep City. You probably guessed that I might discuss the store at some point, no?

Anyway, I was amazed at my experience. I had heard countless stories from every one of my friends recounting their awful times shopping for and purchasing a new mattress. “Used car salesman” was a term that was thrown out liberally. To say that I was anticipating the worst is a bit of an understatement. The Sleep City lights were oddly inviting. And that might sounds weird, but I was expecting blinding fluorescent lights designed to make me feel uncomfortable and anxious. The Sleep City furniture was another telltale that the store I was visiting might be a little different. There were nice chairs to sit down in and take notes, and other items that gave the place a relaxed feel.

Lastly, and this is certainly the most important aspect of the shopping experience, the salesperson was actually helpful. He didn’t constantly push me to look at higher priced models, and he allowed me some time to myself to examine each mattress and its specifications. I don’t know about you, but I would have felt very uncomfortable having a salesman watch me stretch out on numerous mattresses to test them out. This guy backed off a bit and let me explore the merchandise. Common sense when you think about it, but I’ve certainly had some bad experiences in more recent years.

I didn’t end up buying a mattress that day, as I felt like I had to do some more thinking on the matter. Whenever I’m not certain I should make a purchase, I take a night to sleep on it. But, as I was sleeping on my floor at the time, it’s possible that a hastier decision would have been acceptable in this case. In any event, I ended up going back the next day to make the purchase. I can’t even remember what kind of mattress I bought all those years ago, but frankly it was good enough. I had a 22-year old back, and probably could have slept on anything. What I do still remember is the Sleep City sleep experience I got that first night, fully satisfied with having had a great customer experience. Often times, I have found since, it is often these interactions you have pre-purchase that end up mattering far more than the product itself. I may be in the minority here, but I hold this in very high esteem.

And that’s not to discount the quality of the mattress in any way. I slept on that bed for a good ten years after buying it, and felt like I had gotten more than my money’s worth when I took it on it’s farewell voyage to the dump. Those first few nights were divine though, and that may have a lot to do with the the preceding few weeks I had spent sleeping on the floor. Frankly though, I was just happy that I was able to sleep soundly right along with the sleeping city. In short, I would still strongly recommend Sleep City as a store you should consider in the bay area before you buy your next mattress. Best of luck, and check back often for more helpful advice.

Well, in case it’s not readily apparent from the name of this post, I am kind of a fan of Dorma bedding. This stuff is great. I wouldn’t normally plug a brand name of anything, and I don’t have any links up trying to sell Dorma bedding sets and the like, so hopefully you’ll just take this as good, honest advice.

I bought my first Dorma bedding set close to twenty years ago, and truth be told, I can’t remember the name of the pattern, but it was from that moment on that I was hooked. All I can actually remember about it was that the predominant color was green… not much help, I know. Anyway, that was for a double mattress that I was sleeping on at the time, and I probably had those sheets for five years, much longer than I hold on to the average bedding set.
<!--

What set Dorma bed linen immediately apart from sheets I had had in the past was the feeling of quality that I got during that very first night of sleep. Again, I don’t remember enough of the details to give accurate technical specifications, but the thread count felt decent, and the quality of manufacturing was obvious. I couldn’t believe it, and continue to be amazed simply because whatever the thread count was on those sheets, I knew that I hadn’t paid sufficiently for it. Not that I stole them or anything, they were just a very good deal… honest.

Fast forward several years, and dozens of bedding sets, and I have come full circle. Having forgotten about Dorma linen all these years, the brand suddenly popped back into my memory. I went out to several stores, seeing if I could find a new set of these sheets to recreate my Dorma bed from years ago. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find the brand in any stores, which dismayed me a bit, but looking online when I got home from that outing calmed my fears that they had gone out of business, or something similar. I quickly found them on Amazon UK, though I must say that this was a bit inconvenient as I live in the US. I’m especially confused as to how I came across them in the first place given that I was only able to find them on UK sites, but no matter.

I purchased a set of the Kalamkari sheets in a queen size (I now have a larger, metal bed), and awaited their arrival. Can you believe that I was just as pleased when I got my new Dorma bedding set as I was all those years ago? I was shocked, as I think it’s an unfortunate testament to the world we live in today that so many of the brands we look back on fondly now produce substandard products and consistently disappoint us in the memories we hold of them. But, that’s a little beside the point. The main point is that Dorma bedding was exactly as great as I remember it, and that’s something worth noting.

Sheets in hand, I had to do a bit more research on this impressive company. Headquartered in Manchester, the company technically dates back to 1920, though it has roots from much earlier, their site claims, as two brothers originally founded the firm in 1841 as a fabric weaving company. And, not at all to my surprise, the company has done some very innovative things over the years. Not only were they one of the first company to sell their bedding to retailers in pre-packaged sets, they were also one of the first bedding manufacturers to produce printed bed linen in the 1960s, an absolutely revolutionary practice. Also added to their credits are the line of quilt covers that they produced en masse, and the cotton/polyester blends that they pioneered.

The company is still based in Manchester, which is great to hear, and I’m happy to report that they are still producing bed linens of the highest caliber. You certainly owe it to yourself to give a Dorma bedding set a shot, as it won’t break the bank by any means. I am of course partial to the Kalamkari pattern, but their homepage also boasts of the Heather pattern, an equally attractive design. As I’ve mentioned before on this site, a great way to get a feel for a potential new set of sheets is to buy a couple of pillow cases and give them a test drive, so to speak. I am quite confident that you will fall in love with Dorma, as I did so many years ago, and will come back to order the rest of the set. Here is a link to Dorma, as they can certainly describe themselves better than I can — check them out and see if you agree with my sentiments, I can’t imagine that you’ll be anything short of satisfied.

If you have read my post about king size bedding, you know that I am a fan of larger mattresses and the better sleeping experience that they can provide. Well, the super king size bed is kind of the ultimate expression of this idea, and it should come as no surprise that I am a fan of them as well. They can be an especially great option if you and your significant other have small children or animals that like to join you in the bed. The more room you have the better when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, and super king size beds provide ‘room’ in spades.
However great the sleeping experience may be in a super king size though, you can expect to run into the same problem we discussed with finding standard king size, but to a larger degree. As mentioned earlier, sheets are available these days in just about any pattern, color, and material that you can imagine. But, unlike any other size, this is not always the case with super king size bedding. The fact remains that this size simply is not mainstream, and for a number of reasons. Primarily, these beds are just too big for most households. Outside of the modern, cookie-cutter mansions that exist in suburbia, houses for the most part have never been built with the massive master bedrooms that we see today. This cuts off a huge chunk of the addressable market for most mattresses, and puts these out of consideration for most families. Obviously, the other main reason that these are not terribly common is price. As I’m sure you know, larger mattresses require more labor, material, shipping expense, etc. to produce and sell. These costs must be passed along to the consumer, and therefore super king sizes are at the outer limit of price. For most, a regular king size is more than sufficient, and it is easy to justify not paying more for the super… fair enough.

If you’re hear though, you’ve got the space, and you’ve got the dough for a super king size, but it’s no good without sheets. We’re going to talk about a few things to look at when you’re shopping for bedding.

A good set of sheets and bedding is a serious expenditure, and a bit of a long term investment, especially with a bed this large. For that reason, you’re going to want to make sure that you take the time to make a well-reasoned and intelligent choice. To begin with, you’ll need to be aware that not everything you find that you like is going to be available in super king. Know that going in, and you’re less likely to become frustrated while you shop. And keep in mind that there are always workarounds – you may find a pattern you like that is not available in the fabric you like. You may find a material you want, but can’t get it in a pattern that will look good with the rest of your furniture. Don’t give up. This is the cross that king size bedding shoppers must bear. It may be that you have to have the sheets custom made, or it could be that you have to talk to a buyer to get what you want custom ordered. Often these options can be a good thing as it should help insure that you get exactly what you want.

So, what do you have to think about? Well, thread count, as discussed in the king size bedding post, is even more of a concern. With more space, comes an increased likelihood that the sheets will be stretched and pulled, and generally tested to a greater degree in terms of their durability. Looking at thread count is the best precaution you can take against sheets that wear out too soon and force you back into the store to hunt for replacements. As mentioned, you can go as low as 80 or so, but this is far from recommended. When you’re looking for sheets of this size, I would recommend 400 as a minimum thread count for your list of requirements.

The only other thing you’ll have to look at, assuming you can find a patter of your liking (and I won’t bother offering any advice other than to keep it relatively simple – there’s going to be a lot of it, whatever it is), is material. Cotton is the tried and true, but something like satin, silk, or even flannel might be great options depending on your sleep preferences and where you live. And remember that your sheets don’t have to be constructed of the same material as your comforter. Experiment with things like a silk bottom sheet and a flannel super king size duvet and see what you think. Good luck!
